“I am honoured and flattered that my exhibition will travel to Australia and I am thrilled to be returning to a country that I have visited only once, many years ago. Preparing this exhibition I have realised how strong my ties to Australia are – Nicole Kidman was my first couture client; Kylie is a dear friend and I have had the pleasure of working closely with her on her tours. I have also been working for many years with models Gemma Ward, Catherine McNeil, Jarrod Scott, and the list goes on. The people are what make this country great and you Australians certainly excel!

OOOOOH LA LA! The gals and I made it down to the National Gallery of Victoria yesterday and swooned over the fabulous new exhibition: The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier; From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. Talk about chic, talk about drool worthy couture!! This new show features more than 140 fiercely crafted pieces as well as photos, sketches, costumes, video footage, film, television and concerts.
I really can’t express how gorgeous everything was, so I hope these pics convey how AMAZING Jean Paul Gaultier and his work is….
I must admit, I was most excited to see Madonna’s corsets and outfits from her Blond Ambition tour – OMG how effing awesome are they?! I was truly fan-girling at this part of the exhibition. JPG, of course, designed that infamous cone bra Madonna wore for the 1990 tour and designed her whole wardrobe for her 2006 Confessions Tour.
From the Madonnas Collection – These pictures really struck a chord with me, they have a gorgeous, ethereal David LaChapelle quality to them.
Pieces from Punk Cancan definitely had elements and strong overtones of Vivienne Westwood and the 70s punk movement.
The whole time I was wondering around the exhibition I couldn’t get the image of Madonna “giving good face” out of my head – love it! Don’t just stand there dollface, let’s get to it, after all it’s Monday! Strike a pose….
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier; From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk runs til the 8th of February – if you’re a Melburnian make sure you get your ass down to the NGV to see it!
