We couldn’t have asked for a more glorious day for Oaks Day yesterday! The weather was simply magnificent and the best out of the three race days. The ladies and I started off the day with a yummy breakfast out at Time Out to celebrate Tez’s birthday and also to enjoy our day off out of the office while everyone else had to go in – it’s a tough gig but we’ll gladly step in!!
Once fed and a little lubricated (a li’l morning champers helps the eggs go down) we made our way back to Flinders Street Station to grab another Bella Box for our race day essentials kit and then it was back out to Flemington for our last day out at the Spring Racing Carnival.
The day felt far more relaxed than Melbourne Cup, with thankfully fewer people track side. It was lovely to get in early and set up our little picnic and relax in the sunshine (even if I did get a little burnt – damn that one shouldered tan line!)
Traditionally Oaks Day is known as Ladies’ Day (or even more colloquially as Blokes Day because all the lads come to check out the fine ladies!) and the colour is pink or lots of Spring florals. I had the perfect dress in mind for the day – and it still had the tag attached if you can believe it! I bought this one shouldered number from Asos earlier in the year and just never had the occasion to wear it. It didn’t have the price on it but from memory it wasn’t more than $30 – GOD I LOVE A BARGAIN!!
I teamed it with my new pewter Target heels, that I also bought in black, that were $40 and found an old Olga Berg clutch at the bottom of our handbag drawer (yes, my sis and I have that many!) that matched perfectly with them. I topped it all off with a Brock&Eddie fascinator that was made for my sis for Cup Day, but I nabbed it as I thought it worked perfectly with my dress and voilà – a fusion of fierce fuchsia!!
I also finally managed to backed a winner!
There’s one more race day this Saturday – Stakes Day – but alas I’m giving it a miss. Three days is PLENTY for this little clothes horse. I definitely loved getting all dolled up, but I think I’ll only choose one day to go to next year.
I hope you enjoyed my OOTD – Horses, Hats & Heels edition this week. I’m off to soak my feet and face plant the couch this weekend! What are you all up to?
