Summer is well and truly here in Melbourne and it’s a hot one, like seven inches from the midday sun! If you follow me on Instagram you’d have seen a pic I posted over the weekend when we were in the midst of a heatwave – it got up to 41°C (105.8°F!!) talk about a hot box! When the weather is like this there’s nothing worse than having my fringe stuck in my face and becoming one sweaty, limp mess! This is when I pull out my arsenal of summer hairstyles, all of which ensure that my hair is kept out of my face and looking fresh. I thought I’d share them with you as part of my Summer Series…
1. Side Braid – This is well and truly my favourite summer hairstyle. It’s fun and funky and y’all know how much I love a braid! It can be a little tricky getting my fringe into the mix, but I try to make it a chunkier braid at the base to make sure all of it gets incorporated. Once I’ve finished the braid I then grab the rest of my hair and twist it into a messy side bun at the nape of my neck. When it’s all secured I fluff out the braid to make it look fuller and less structured.

2. Top Knot – I must admit this one usually never sees the outside of the four walls of my house because it can get super messy! The Top Knot is tricky when you don’t have long hair to work with. If you have shorter hair like me I’ve come up with a simple solution to the problem of all your hair coming loose at the back of your top knot. First scoop all your hair up into a high pony tail and wrap it around and secure (or whatever method you use to make a bun). Next pin your loose strands with bobby pins and then finish off by hiding the pins with a big flower or any other hair accessory you have in your collection – et voilà a top knot for short hair.

3. Head Band + Milkmaid Braids – this is a great one if you’re in a bit of a rush and need to head out the door pronto but still want to have a bit of a ‘do happening. Grab a head band and sweep it through your hair. You can stop there and be boring but to add extra pizzaz and jazz up your headband make two braids and then join them at the nape of your neck – instant milkmaid braids for that Alpine chic look! As you can see mine aren’t perfect but that’s the way I like it – when my hair looks too done I feel like I should be going to a ball!
4. Hat – When all else fails and your hair just doesn’t want to do anything stick on a hat and you’re flying! You’ll look cute and trendy and no one needs to know your hair is a hot mess underneath it all. PLUS it’s also a great way to keep the sun off your face and make sure you’re keeping your skin looking fresh.
I hope these have given you a little inspiration for when you need to get your hair out of your face. What are you favourite summer hairstyles?
