Vivienne Westwood was without a doubt the pioneer of punk culture with her shocking and daring designs that were the antithesis to the hippie movement in the early 70s. It wouldn’t surprise me if she had a birthmark in the shape of the word “FIERCE” somewhere on her ass!
Without Vivienne Westwood we’d have no punk or new wave fashion. Sure Malcom McLaren helped along the way but it was Vivienne who incorporated traditional Scottish tartans with elements from bikers, fetishists and prostitutes and brought shock value into the fashion scene that can still be seen today. Hey, that big ass hat Pharrell kept wearing last year was a Westwood original!
She’s self taught and managed to turn the fashion world in the 70s on its head – a true rebel and fierce female in my books. This Sunday I adorn my studded dog collar (I don’t have one but I should) and bow down to the queen of punk!
