As a kid, The Bangles were the first band I decided were my favourite all by myself. I was 7 years old and Walk Like An Egyptian may have just topped the charts and was probably the only song I knew of theirs BUT to me they were amazing. An all girl group who played their own instruments AND wore fabulous clothes (it was like Jem and the Holograms come to life!) was just the absolute bees knees in my opinion, and Susanna Hoffs was the queen bee!
Susanna was pure 80s rock chic with big hair and bigger sex appeal. So much so that it caused a riff with the band as big record execs wanted her to be the front woman, which naturally didn’t fly well with the other girls. Of course this led to their demise in the early 90s but thankfully they reformed and I was lucky enough to see them with none other than Pat Benatar! You can bet your sweet ass I was rocking out at the concert!
This Sunday I raise my can of hairspray and toast Susanna and the rest of the Bangles, sing it with me everyone; whey oh whey oh WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY OH!
