What would an outdoor event in Melbourne be without at least some rain and the chance of sunburn in the afternoon? After being blessed with fabulous weather weekend after weekend it just had to happen and storm the morning of Derby Day! So what’s a girl to do when she’s already got a cute outfit to wear but go and brave the rain.
The ladies and I arrived at Flemington Racecourse as the heavens opened and all we could do was have a good giggle at how great plans can be easily dashed. Alas we cheered up instantly as we got stuck right into the champagne and the people watching. Thankfully the rain didn’t last for long and we were able to relax in the Yellowglen Terrace and enjoy the afternoon’s festivities.
Last year’s Brock&Eddie fascinator was given another whirl this year as a piece this gorgeous shouldn’t be worn only once! I’ve said it before but it really is a shame that we don’t get to wear beautiful headpieces more often. I don’t think they should be ruled out to wear on a daily basis as I would love to rock one to work – it’d make getting ready in the morning a whole lot more interesting.
And instead of dropping major cash (oh, who am I kidding, I never drop major cash on fashion, darlings!) buying a whole new outfit I shopped my wardrobe for monochromatic favourites you may have seen here and here and jazzed them up with new accessories.
Did you make it out to Derby Day this year or are you going to any of the other races this Spring Carnival?
But first, let me take a selfie!
