As I mentioned the other day, Derby Day was nothing but grey skies and torrential rain in the morning then blues skies in the afternoon – oh so very Melbourne! As the weather forecast throughout the week was looking more and more likely to rain it threw a spanner in my plans to finally try an at home fake tan. I figured the combo of rain and tan AND white clothing not the greatest of ideas! I was a little bummed as I’d heard about how easy and fabulous Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter was to use and I thought a great fake tan would offset my monochromatic ensemble.

After so many horror stories in the past I finally worked up the courage and wanted to try a self tanner at home. I figured it’s 2015 – surely by now they’ve figured out how to get rid of that god awful smell?!! The one thing that excited me about Cocoa Brown was that it claimed to have a floral scent (Tahitian Gardenia, if you don’t hardly mind!) so thankfully no gross chemical smell.

I immediately wanted to try Lovely Legs  – a spray tan that you spritz directly onto your legs for an instant bronze look. It seemed so easy and idiot proof that I could definitely handle it. Here I was ready to get a tan-tastic look for a Saturday night out and after spraying one leg I realised I looked like an Oompa Loompa (below) and immediately stopped!!cocoa brown tan

Yeah, um, so not the look I was trying for. Lovely Legs claims to help cover up imperfections giving you the confidence to do your thing but I wasn’t gaining any confidence looking a lovely shade of Loompa. Thankfully the  Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff – 3 in 1 Body Scrub worked its magic and I was able to scrub off the orange – crisis averted!

So after this first little hiccup I was a little worried to try out the 1 Hour Tan Mousse. Was I right in thinking that all at home tanners were a failure? Well I was proven wrong that’s for sure! The silky smooth mousse was so easy to use in combination with the applicator mitt, it was as simple as rubbing in moisturiser all over and the best thing was that it was very quick drying and YES, NO SMELL!!

Once it was applied I had a tough decision to make; how dark did I want to go as the colour varies depending how long its left on for? After an hour the tan becomes a light glow, 2 hours a medium hue and after 3 a dark golden tan. I decided to just go with a light tan to start with and showered after an hour and was pleasantly surprised to have a lovely summer glow happening!

I’m super happy with the outcome and I’ll definitely be using the 1 Hour Tan Mousse again for that safe, no-sun glow this summer. The tan is meant to last 5 – 7 days and after 2 days in it’s still going strong.

Are you a fan of self tanners? What are the products you swear by?

  1. Wow, the one hour one looks great! I am so lucky to have fairly olive toned skin naturally, but I have used self tanning spray in the past to even out my skin tone (I scar easily from little things like mozzie bites and stuff) and hide flaws. I don’t bother anymore, but a product that easy might sway me if I had a special event and a short dress! 🙂

    • I’m the same Kez, I’m quite olive but for some reason my legs always look lighter than the rest of me – this was so so simple! I really am going to use this all the time. People keep asking if I went away over the long weekend LOL! xo

  2. Wow. Pass on the lovely legs. However, I love the results for the one hour mouse. That is great. I must admit I have stayed away from self tanners for years for the loompa reasons 🙂 Plus the stuff never came off your hands and looked awful and mottled for days LOL.
May have to consider this for summer considering I am currently suffering from a case of Casper skin 🙂

Now it's your turn...let me know what you think. I love reading your comments! :)
