As I mentioned in last year’s Fierce Females post I wasn’t the biggest fan of Pink when she first hit the scene back in the early 2000s. The combination of brash lyrics and big attitude initially got under my skin, but the more I listened to her songs and the more I saw her funky personality in interviews she really grew on me.
Whilst living in Japan the girls in my apartment building would blast out her second album, Mizunderstood, on high rotation and I couldn’t help but sing along and I eventually caved and bought my own copy. My biggest regret is not seeing her when she toured Japan that year. Everyone raved about the show and looking back it would have been fabulous to see her during those early years while she was honing her sound. I eventually got to see Pink in concert years later (twice actually) and she puts on one HELL of a show!
Listening to her now it feels like those early albums were written for me specifically and I guess that’s why so many people love her – she’s relatable and genuine. That big and bold attitude that I disliked at first is the very reason why I absolutely love Pink today.
Like most popular Top 40 music they play Pink a HELL OF A LOT on Australian radio, almost to the point of overkill! For some reason this song wasn’t a huge radio hit and that’s probably why I love it so much. It reminds me of road tripping through Europe in summer. If God IS a D.J. I bet he loves Pink…Happy Sunday dollface!
