Ahhh hmmmm mmm *more grumbling* yeah, remember that time I said I could totally rock navy lipstick? Turns out I am 100%, without a doubt, definitely full of shit! By the looks of these pics I am no where rocking anything and need to put this obsession with midnight-stained lips to sleep! I think this has well and truly taught me the lesson that not all girls can wear EVERY shade of lipstick that’s out there, no matter how bad ass we think we are.
After trying out the Horizon Blue lipstick from Rubi Shoes last month I’d put a call out to everyone asking if they knew a cheaper dupe for the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Echo that I was lusting after. Well lucky me was contacted by the gorgeous Beth, from Almost Posh, who reached out to me on Instagram asking if I’d like to try Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipstick in Blue Velvet. (Oooh controversial considering the KVD/Jeffree Star spat!) Beth’s friend had given her loads of colours to try and she wasn’t going to try Blue Velvet (like a sane lady) so I was totally on board.
One thing I noticed right off the bat was that this Velour Liquid Lipstick dries super quickly. No sooner had I brushed on my first swipe and it was drying into place. It may be a liquid lippy but this sucker is matte and dryer than toast! It’s also messy and I wound up with just as much on my teeth as I did on my lips!!
Once it was applied (and I cleaned my teeth with a face wipe) I got a good look at myself I just wasn’t feeling this colour at all. I felt so washed out and drab and wasn’t brave enough to wear it out in public. After taking countless photos for this review and thinking it was my face that was the problem my sister basically told me flat out that it wasn’t me it was the lipstick and it’s super unattractive. OUCH! Message received!
I can also tell you that this lipstick is ultra long lasting! Though I only wore it for approximately 30 minutes, trying to scrub this mutha off was TOUGH work. Even after using a face wipe and some micellar water I still had traces of blue around the edge of my lips – YIKES!
Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick retails for approx. $18USD online. Thankfully, I didn’t spend that as I don’t think I’ll be wearing this again. Thanks again Beth!!
Have I turned you off blue lippy for life?
